on my walls

new idea
paint scraped off my palette - for a while I had been collecting the leftover paint and putting it in a little plastic box but then I thought of wrapping it with string - I'm kind of excited to have these little bits of line and color to hang around.

tangles piece (reworked), oil, acrylic on canvas, 20"x20", 2007
available

box on my wall
(detail in the black doesn't show up, I think because it's so glossy)
8"x5"

work in progress (36"x36") still figuring out where it needs to go

Oh my, I really like these new pieces. I am excited about the wrapped paint! Thank you for your comments over at novembermoon. I was just thinking how I would love to see you using papier mache one day soon.... I always find your work inspiring.

hi Anne-Laure, i love how that painting has been reworked. looked at the large images of it on a 22" wide screen and it is just so good. i could now really get the feeling of entanglement within that vast space where one could feel so alone and muddled. and maybe frustrating too as some glimpse of light/hope is really not that far away, but maybe out of bounds? and off the little world we create for ourselves?
really exciting to see new ideas popping up and how some elements are coming together.

I like the tangled paint scrapings. I love the concept of residue; the paint left over implying the painting, but the painting not shown.
The idea of an event or an item known only from what is left behind. Artistc archaeology!

Hi, I’m visiting through Kruse. Love that bundle of colour, actually I’ve got a thing for bundles, full stop. In some old paintings of the Virgin Mary I think, when she’s sitting in a room with a bed, there are these bundles hanging from the posts, presumably containing the rolled up bed-curtains, and I’ve always found them most intriguing.
Very taken with your painting. The combination of drawing and painting, of lines and planes, of scratches and thread. Layering paint and scratching through surfaces.
Revealing/concealing.
Your black is so vibrant, has its own dark light. It’s interesting how my perception of black changes in your painting, depending on which colours are juxtaposed. In ‘until something becomes clear’ (top 2) it’s a night-black and I feel like I’m out in the dark myself, whereas in the one below it feels like I’m looking out, from inside a lightless place. Just realised its details from the same painting, now the balance shifts again.
Looking forward to coming back.

Anne-Laure, I am in love with your work. I am curious how much your pieces your run for. As a fellow artist I believe in supporting other wonderful artists. Hopefully I can afford one. I love "Red Falling", "rain","underneath", and "Tangles". Please let me know.

Thank you for all your thoughtful comments!!
Funny Cathy, I have been thinking about papermaché for some time - haven't done any since elementary school, but then after coming a cross a few flickr artists that use it so well I've been more excited to try it again.

Mien, somehow you seem to read my thoughts or something, read between the lines or somehow intuit things that I have been meaning to put into words but haven't... Yes, it is about creating a little personal world (I've been trying to figure out what is at the heart of my work, how to put it in a nutshell, and I think it is somewhere along those lines).
Thank you for stopping by Kruse - I like the idea of artistic archaeology very much!
Aluapaula and marjojo, thank you for your comments, it's wonderful to get feedback and hear your experience - gives me a new perspective on my own work.
